"Stand Your Ground" Everson Museum Collection
This sculptural porcelain vessel represents a classical ceramic amphora perceived by many to be an anachronous form. Similarly, guns, the âNRAâ, and current laws may seem to be antiquated as well. In this vessel, the depiction of an eternal struggle is highlighted as the confrontational standoff between good and evil. This never-ending dilemma facing the angel and devil is insufferable and confused by the fact that their hearts, eyes, and ears have gone missing. Unable to see, to hear, and to love propels the never-ending struggle for eternity. Closer examination reveals anatomically detachable wings. One could imagine the pinned wings to be interchangeable also blurring questions and answers in the debate. While the innocents continue to suffer, are we questioning our humanity? I feel fear every day like never before, as a mentor and teacher.
